Towards the 150th anniversary of the company’s founding, striving with the 2036 vision: “The World’s Most Expressive Innovation Company”
1958
October 1 of this year, sees the momentous launch of the highgrade “uni” pencil. The pencil meets with overwhelming public approval, chalking up sales far greater than anticipated, due to its superior quality and style. This lays the foundation for acceptance of the uni brand worldwide.

Seeking more satisfactory writing performance of roller pens, the company introduces the “uni-ball”, the world’s first roller pen to incorporate a metal tip. The pen’s exceptionally smooth writing performance makes it an immediate hit in the Japanese and American markets, generating explosive sales.
1983
“POSCA” colored water-based pigment ink markers
The inimitable water-based pigment ink marker, “Posca”, is introduced. It achieves immediate success with its ability to mark most surfaces without penetration and its superior colour brightness. It also features total water and fade resistance.

Unicosmo Corporation, Ltd., was established as a start of cosmetics related business

Establishment
The forerunner to Mitsubishi Pencil Co., Ltd. was established in Naito Shinjuku (now the Naito area of Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward) in 1887 by Niroku Masaki.
1901
The fist domestically produced pencils (No.1, No.2 and No.3 for bureaus) were delivered to the Ministry of Communications (the current Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications)
1903
Both the Mitsubishi trademark and the “tree-diamond” mark were registered to commemorate three types of pencils delivered to the Ministry of Communications (no. 18865)
1925
Masaki Pencil Manufacturing and Yamato Pencil merged, forming Masaki Yamato Pencil Co., Ltd., with its head office in Yokohama's Kanagawa district (17 April)
1927
Started exporting directly to countries around the world.
Beginning with Mexico, the company establishes the first of many direct export relationships. Around 1933, this is extended to include markets in India, Egypt, Portugal, Argentina, Belgium and Holland.
1946
At the end of World War II, the company recommences manufacturing and introduces the “No. 9800” pencil.
1952
The Company name is changed from Masaki Yamato Pencil Co., Ltd. to Mitsubishi Pencil Co., Ltd., thereby unifying the names of the Company and its products.
